Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) Launches Global Nature-based Solutions Initiative

CSR

31 March 2026, Hanoi, Vietnam and Taipei, Taiwan – Hon Hai Technology Group (“Foxconn”) (TWSE:2317) today launched the "Global Nature-based Solutions Initiative and Transnational Cooperation Plan", moving forward on long-term sustainability goals of the world's largest technology manufacturing platform service provider to lead the value chain from net-zero carbon emissions to nature-positive, and jointly build a resilient ecosystem.

The initiative, detailed at Foxconn’s first "Global Nature-based Solutions Summit" held in Hanoi, calls on customers, partners, and supply chain manufacturers to respond together. The first phase is jointly promoted with Vietnam’s Quang Ninh Provincial Government, the Hanoi University of Science (VNU-HUS) and Natures Bank. In the future, it will further connect local industry, government, and academic resources in Vietnam.

Foxconn Chief Environmental Officer Ron Horng said: "The core of this initiative lies in 'mutual benefit.' By breaking down knowledge silos and lowering the barriers to participation, we help our partners transform sustainable actions into concrete ecological contributions. This is not only to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, but also to establish unparalleled green competitiveness in the global industrial chain race."

At the summit, Foxconn announced the launch of its first NbS project, the "Mangrove Restoration and Water Replenishment Research Project” in Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam. This project leverages AI technology, combining remote sensing monitoring with scientific replanting strategies to effectively enhance natural carbon sequestration and maintain biodiversity, accurately track restoration progress, and strengthen coastal protection and ecosystem service value.

Quang Ninh Province is home to Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site renowned for its unique karst topography and rich biodiversity. Mangroves serve as a crucial ecological barrier protecting this world-class landscape. Restoring mangroves not only effectively filters land-based pollutants and maintains the clarity of Ha Long Bay's waters but also strengthens coastal resilience and protects local communities. Foxconn hopes this project will serve as a model, encouraging partners to closely integrate business operations with natural capital preservation to jointly establish a quantifiable and traceable natural ecological restoration model.

During the summit, Foxconn recognized dozens of key supply chain partners for their pledge to carry out nature-based solutions. The Group will also launch a website for the initiative, which will have regular updates on the progress, data and technology application cases of various NbS projects, including the Vietnam mangrove project. The aim is to enhance the transparency and credibility of such projects and keep supply chain partners abreast of the latest sustainable practices, thereby lowering the barriers to participation and expanding investment.

Foxconn's new long-term sustainability goals, include NbS. Together with its value chain partners, the Group plans to launch at least one environmental and ecological restoration action annually in its major production regions through 2030, reaching a global yearly total of 80,000 cumulative volunteer hours. The goals also call for completing biodiversity dependence and impact assessments in key areas within the next five years, and incorporating related risks into management.
